Winchester went back and forth between the Union and Confederacy at least 72 times during the Civil War. While Fort Loudoun was being built, George Washington used an office in Winchester for around one year. James Wood, a former Governor of Virginia, lived in Winchester and his impact can still be felt today. Two of the local schools are named after him.

Winchester is a very historic city in which to live. It has a variety of museums, parks and recreation areas that make for a spectacular time for tourists. Winchester also has plenty of restaurants to sample that down home cooking. There is so much to do, a hopeful tourist would do well to make an itinerary so as not to miss a thing.

To most, Winchester, Virginia, is just a small city that is passed through on the way to somewhere else. It may look like other places in Virginia, but it holds more than meets the eye. Winchester is home to the Apple Blossom Festival. In early May, the festival is held and includes parades, carnivals, ceremonies, events, and much more. Groups and people from all over the country come to this small city to enjoy all of the festivities. Grand Marshals for the Apple Blossom Festival have included Dan Marino, Kevin Jonas, Scotty McCreery, Mario Lopez, Debbie Reynolds, and many more.

People have lived in Winchester most of their lives. Many of the members of this community grew up here and are now raising their families here.

Winchester is the birthplace of famous singer, Patsy Cline. There is a tremendous community feel in Winchester. One of the biggest examples of this can be seen in schools. Between Winchester City and the surrounding county schools, there are four high schools in the area. Despite being rivals most of the time, these schools can come together to support each other. It is almost like a sibling rivalry.

Neither too large or too small, it is perfect for working families and excellent schools for children. Whether you wish to visit our Old Town Walking Mall or the large variety of today’s stores, Winchester will satisfy any choosy shopper. It’s a great place!
