Wages are low and manufacturing jobs are scarce. Housing is cheap if you stay away from the Southwest PKWY and country club area. Public transportation is not easy to use.

Wichita Falls is a small city of about 130,000 people. It sits close to the Oklahoma border along the Red River. I enjoy taking walks along the river trail, fishing, and socializing with good friends. There is a college and an air force base. Downtown is beginning to open back up with apartments, bars, and coffee shops.

Our city annually holds a bike race called “Hotter’N Hell”. Thousands of riders from many places come for the event held in August. August is hot in Wichita Falls, TX; thus, the name of the ride. On Friday evening a dinner is held for the riders that includes many carbohydrates. The actual race starts very early on Saturday and an additional race is held on Sunday.
