If you move here to Somerset West, don’t mind where you get a place to stay the prices are sky high and places on sale are rare, otherwise this is a wonderful area. So many great activities to do and places to visit, with plenty of history as well, also very close to beach, only a 5 minute drive depending on where you stay. Also has a very nice road going through to Cape Town, you can decide one afternoon you want to go to Cavendish Square and Bam! There you can go. Really wonderful infrastructure. 😀

Summers are hot, dry and windy. There are often bush fires. Winters are fairly mild but wet. Sometimes when snow comes in it gets cold. This is a fast growing area with good schools, good roads, a good shopping mall and great beaches. Central to the Winelands there’s lots of outdoors activities. Also it’s an easy drive to Cape Town and the airport. It gets pretty crowded in the holiday season but the roads are good.

The primary factor to consider when moving to Somerset West is one’s fuel budget. Although there are many stores, malls, schools and wholesalers in close proximity to the many residential areas, there are limited employment opportunities. Most people live in Somerset West but work in Stellenbosch, Cape Town, or in the Northern Suburbs. Also, despite the proximity of these services, the stretches between them are often unsafe to walk or cycle through, therefor the use of a car for daily activities or errands is definitely encouraged.

Somerset West is very laid back. It is sort of a holiday town and people are very helpful and friendly. We have excellent schools, vibrant shopping centres and beautiful beaches. Our town is only 20 kilometres from the International airport and public transport is available around the clock. Although there is not much of a night life, the quiet atmosphere will suit young and old.
