Civic responsibility is taught early on in Madison. It is taught that service work through volunteering builds character and helps the community as a whole. Most of the students do service work at one of the local retirement homes, food share or summer camps. The Deacon John Grave House is a historic site that was built in 1681 on the southeast corner of the town green. The Grave’s House provided a home for nine generations of Graves, and is now a landmark that holds Santa book reading events, Halloween Trick or Treat parties, dinners and silent auctions.

The street that runs through downtown is paved with brick, and lined with Dogwood trees. In the Spring, Artists flock to Madison to create artworks. There are miles of trails to hike, beaches to lounge, parks to play, a downtown to stroll and a large variety of stores and restaurants in which to shop and dine. Madison, CT is a diverse community steeped in the rich history of maritime industry, agriculture and commerce.
