The old parts of town – the underbank and marketplace are much improved. Heaton moor is an excellent place to live.

Stockport is known for its residential feel and wealthier neighbourhoods. Being close to Cheshire and Derbyshire, the country is never far away, but it is only twenty minutes into Manchester centre by train.

Stockport is built in sandstone cliffs so the town is on several levels and consists of many steep hills. Beneath the town is several miles of tunnels that were used as air-raid shelters for up to 6000 people during the war. Famous for making bowler hats, the skyline is still dominated by the tall chimney of the Hat Museum.
