St. Mary’s City was the first European Settlement in Maryland. Centuries ago, English settlers sailed across the Potomac and made it to the Western shore of the Chesapeake Bay, which houses Maryland’s famous-and delicious-Blue Crabs. St Mary’s City is an internationally recognized archaeological site. Some archaeological discoveries found in St. Mary’s City include the first Printing House to exist in the Southern Colonies as well as some Kutahya Ceramics. Kutahya Ceramics are very unique, handmade pieces of pottery from Turkey. There are only 2 known sets in the US and St. Mary’s City is home to one of them.
