If moving to New Delhi, know you can always haggle with local shopkeepers and auto (or tuk-tuk in other countries) drivers. Especially if you are a foreigner, or do not look like a mainland Indian, you may be tricked into paying more.

The city’s climate is a humid-subtropical one. There is Monsoon season from June to October. Hinduism is the widely observed religion. Contrary to what the name suggests, New Delhi is part of India’s oldest areas. Although New Delhi is a cosmopolitan and urbanized city, water sources are still not 100% reliable. Power failures and water shortages can be annoying especially during summer. Delhi Metro is well connected and convenient. Bargaining is a must in local markets.

New Delhi’s cityscape is a beautiful landscape of tree-lined avenues, laid out in an interesting layout of triangles and circles.
House and Apartment Hunting

The rents in New Delhi are considered to be higher than other cities in India because of the increasing demand and insufficient supply in the housing market. The most common types of accommodations are villas, condos and high-rise apartment buildings. Negotiation with a landlord usually takes a couple of weeks, and you can choose between a short term and long term lease agreement. Three months deposit is enough since it is quite a common problem for tenants having problems getting the deposit after the contract. Most expats live in the city centre of in South Delhi where the price of a one-bedroom apartment starts at €220 per month and €530 for a three-bedroom unit. There are also rentals in neighbouring districts where a one-bedroom flat costs €150 monthly, and a three-bedroom unit is around €300 per month.

If you are not from India, people will try to offer you a higher price than the actual so bargaining is the key in anything that you do. Whether it is basic shopping or finding a place. Do not trust anybody too quickly especially if you are a woman.

New Delhi, the capital of India, is a city with excellent roads and monuments to watch out for. The food in the city is to die for and the malls are beautiful. Traffic could be heavy on roads so morning visits to the temples are recommended. The best time to visit New Delhi is from September to March as the weather is pleasant.

New Delhi is the capital of the country. You will find quite nice apartments with quite high prices and you can find adjustable living spaces with economic cost. One thing is for sure wherever you live you will find transportation and essential services at some footsteps. Some places might seem a little insecure for night travels although government is working quite hard to tackle those problems too but be alert. You can find plenty of help with anything you want as people are really helpful.

New Delhi ranks very low in terms of air pollution so do carry along a mask with dirt filter. Delhi is a place full of beauty, famous for the Mughal Gardens, India Gate, Red Fort among others spread over kilometers of land. Prefer metro instead of buses. The museums are a must visit giving an insight of the rich cultural heritage of India such as Doll Museum, Train Museum, National Museum and a lot more. The food gets a lot more interesting as you can find a blend of thousands of cuisines here, avoid street food as it is very low in hygiene.
