Before moving to Accra, one should know that temperatures tend to rise to around 30°C on most days, and even during rainy seasons, it hardly ever gets cold. The weather affects so much in my city, from the area your house is situated, to the appliances you purchase and the fabric of the clothes you wear. This is due to the fact that some areas flood when it rains and the heat usually deteriorates some appliances and fabrics faster than usual.

The city is like the hub for businesses in the country so almost everyone wants to move here which makes housing and other necessities expensive compared to the other cities in the country. Also, the best quality of amenities such as schools, shopping centers and recreational environments can be found here.

The people in Accra are welcoming, charming and hospitable. Everyone moving to my city is bound to love them. The environment is clean, safe and pleasant as well. There are about several malls, cinemas and eateries that provide food and anything one may need at affordable prices.

Rent is expensive, be ready to pay for a year or two upfront. The sun can get unbearably hot sometimes. Look on the bright side though (pun very much intended), there are enough malls, beaches and lots of great places to have fun and cool off too. Transport is fairly cheap, so moving around won’t be a bother. We have enough ride-hailing services too. And there’s our epic jollof: no one ever gets over that.

When moving to Accra, you have to get accustomed to street hawkers who sell their wares in moving vehicles called ‘Trotro’. Although they are usually rickety old vehicles, they serve their purpose perfectly and act as a moving market to drug sellers, preachers selling miracles and various sellers trying to pitch you a product.

Accra is a very friendly city, it has numerous facilities which makes living easier, facilities for health such as gym, parks and courts are easily accessible. For shopping, there are various mall, and grocery stores one can easily get to and an effective delivery service readily available. For recreational facilities there are no shortage of clubs and musical concerts not forgetting our numerous beaches.

The people are very hospitable, friendly and kind. Considering rent here is not really a wise decision because it can be very expensive at times. There is also a constant traffic jam on the main highways. There are lots of nice shops and malls you can shop from and many great tourist attractions.

To live in Accra, it is very important that you appear confident even if you don’t know anything. For example, when asking about the cost of transportation to a particular destination, you must not accept the price given by the driver. Instead, name your own price confidently and bargain with the driver else you risk being overcharged!
