On August 3, 2019, a mass shooting took place in a local Walmart, taking away 23 lives and injuring 23 others. The shooter targeted Latinos and immigrants. El Paso reacted in a way that was full of love. Many people started fundraisers to help victims and their families, with something as selling a T-shirt or even by donating blood. The community did everything they possibly could to try and help, with determination and love.

El Paso was not only on the news for the horrible mass shooting, but because of the long lines to donate blood, and the amazing amounts of money raised to help these victims and their families. The community held vigils every day after the shooting took place, taking the time to pay their respects and remember those who were lost. El Paso took this downfall and used it to grow more as a community. The city may have crossed a dark event, but the people held each other up and were there for one another through it all.
