Aurora was founded as a farming community and started with about 20 villagers. Aurora became the City of Lights in 1837 when it became the first place in the United States to use electric lights to light up the entire city. The heart of the city lies in downtown Aurora near the waterfront. There, many can be seen taking boat rides, eating at the variety of restaurants, or in casinos. Although this area itself is not very big, there is always a way to distract yourself for an afternoon. Downtown Aurora is crammed with many small businesses, from dress shops, to stores selling antiques, or pastry stores.

Aurora has a larger population of Hispanic and Black businesses than many of the surrounding cities. These businesses create a feeling of security and support for many minorities that visit them. Naperville seems to be on another end of the spectrum in comparison to Aurora. Naperville tends to be on the wealthier side of most suburbs, and with that comes many larger chains and businesses. It contains many high end restaurants as well as a large shopping mall that attracts the attention of many all throughout the state.

Aurora is the second largest city in Illinois. There are endless things to do in this city from visiting the SciTech Interactive Science Museum to walking through the Phillips Park Zoo. Roller skating is also very popular. There are more local restaurants than one could count. It’s a great place to start a family.
