Pomona is an old city that used to be a suburban middle class area. In the 1980’s two big employers shut their doors and the property values began to slide as unemployment spread through the city. Also, in the 80’s, crack cocaine took over Pomona. To this day prostitutes walk Holt Avenue, drug dealers are common and the city is not safe at night in certain areas. However, flowers grow in caca. There is a lively music scene in Pomona. The glass house is a great concert venue and many local bars and coffee houses host local music shows. The colleges in neighboring Claremont provide ample customers to the lively underground scene.
