With loads of history from the Romans and Vikings to the Railways of the industrial revolution York is a year round tourist destination. There are plenty of restaurants and bars to accommodate the visitors with walking and bus tours for most tastes. Hosting several large horse racing events through the summer there are days when the mood of the city changes to more hedonistic than historic.

Historic walled town with many pubs and restaurants catering to the tourist crowd. Two good universities. Easy to get around on your bike. Generally flat. Very easy city to live in. Well connected to London on a fast train (although quite expensive). Expensive housing market both to buy and rent.

York is a very liveable city with lots of history. It’s popularity as a tourist destination and it’s two universities help it punch above its weight in terms of restaurants and bars.

York is a very historical town, where there is something new to learn around every corner; there is also something about the way York is, that brings the modern world, whether it’s from the magic found down the shambles or from the vibrant nightlife and colours filling the once capital city.

York was once a major Viking settlement and, to this day, still offers a wealth of historical attractions for visitors to enjoy. Beyond educational and cultural insights, York is also held in high esteem by tourists due to its famous range of 365 bars and pubs – one for daily of the year. If you do move to York, sample the local delicacy of ‘cheesy chips and gravy’, a sister dish to the Canadian ‘poutine’, which nicely complements any chilly night in York.

York is the most haunted city in the UK, so those with a superstitious disposition should beware! Other than ghost tours, there is a wealth of cultural activities for tourists and locals. York has many historical monuments, plus a vibrant social scene – York residents are proud of the city’s claim to have a pub for daily of the year.

York is home to plenty of small shops, sweet cafés and local pubs that have a friendly, homey atmosphere. It is easy to fit in with the charming public and is a great place for new experiences. Summer weather is desirable gorgeous and plenty of parks and garden have beautiful scenery that make York an ideal place.
