The village where I live – Mqabba – is a very small, quaint little village, in the south of Malta; one which is still rather quiet when compared to other more busy and cosmopolitan cities on the island. The core of the village is still very typical Maltese, with the church being the dominant and prominent feature in the village square, and a couple of small old bars and convenience shops scattered around. Mqabba is surrounded by limestone quarries, which is a characteristic which distinguishes it from other localities in Malta. Mqabba is principally renowned for its beautiful firework displays, which its two firework factories offer to spectators twice every summer in June and August during the village’s two parish feasts. This is someone moving to Mqabba should know, especially if they have younger children or pets, who might be scared by the loud sound of fireworks. Other than that, however, life in the village is still overall very peaceful and calm, adorned with a rich history and culture, and warm and welcoming inhabitants.
