Beautiful, rural old Hawaiian living near sea. Of course that means few utilities, no roads and “rainfall harvested” water. Life is grand!

The place is probably rural compared to any city that you are used to. Have patience. Visit a few times, rent a cheap room share and look around. Learn the local culture, don’t try to expect things to be done the same way it’s done where you are from. If you want life to be the same as where you are from, stay where you are from.

Kea’au is a lovely town. Although it’s small, it possesses all the resources one might need. A mile or two down the road are a general store and gas station. Additionally, unlike many other parts of Hawai’i, Kea’au isn’t overrun by tourists. Demographically speaking, Kea’au is only 12 percent white and predominantly Asian.
