Ilorin is the capital of Kwara State. It is the 7th known largest city by population in Nigeria. Ilorin was founded by the Yoruba; one of the three largest ethnic groups in Nigeria, in 1450. It became a provincial military headquarters of the ancient Oyo Empire and later became a Northern Nigeria protectorate when Shehu Alimi, an itinerant Islamic preacher and teacher took control of the city through the spread of Islam. The city is a confluence of cultures, populated by the Yoruba, Igbo, Hausa, Fulani, Nupe, Bariba and Kanuri tribes from across Nigeria, as well as foreign nationals. There are large Christian and Islamic populations and many ceremonial activities, mostly with religious aspects, take place in the city throughout the year.

Ilorin is like the main capital city of Kwara State. The city is at the north of Nigeria, rich in cultural heritage and tourism. Considered peaceful and pride itself as one of the most accommodating area to live in as to low cost of living compared to other parts of the country. The area is tourist friendly and the people are accommodating too. You should visit sometime though. You’ll love it, I promise.
