Known as Deva or Dewa in Roman times, Chester in North West England has the most complete set of city walls in the UK. Not only is it a fabulous place and work, it is also well-loved by the many visitors it receives throughout the year.

Chester is a rich, vibrant city steeped in stories from history. The most prominent of which, can be seen in the Rows which house two level shops throughout the city centre. For anyone wanting to get away from the buzz of the city, the small village of Handbridge, which sits on the river, is only a 10-minute walk out of town.

Chester has a rich roman history, including the Chester Walls. The Walls were made of locally sourced red sandstone and an amphitheater lies just outside these Walls. Chester was founded almost two millennia ago as a Roman fortress. Today, some of the original walls still stand and you are able to walk around them.

Chester is small city but full of character. It’s historically a Roman City, with some remains of Roman City Walls still in place, therefore it is a popular tourist destination. Nowadays Chester is a lovely and safe place, with local amenities in place for both, families and elderly residents. And although it is not a big city, with Chester Business Park close by, there are plenty of jobs. But if you’re after a small break, then look no further, there is brilliant nightlife with plenty of clubs, bars and restaurants and a famous Chester Zoo if you’re looking for something to do with kids.
