The History of Caloocan City, Metro Manila

Caloocan city is within National Capital Region. It is subdivided into North and South Caloocan. North Caloocan has bigger land mass than South Caloocan. All in all, Caloocan City has 168 Barangays and has approximately 1.6 million residents. Caloocan City is also famous as one of the historical places for the Katipuneros, which is symbolized by the Bonifacio Monument.

Caloocan City has been changed dramatically these past few years. The city is well-known for its Bonifacio Circle Monument at the middle of the street in Monumento. Later on, Diosdado Macapagal has improved its name to Caloocan City Medical City which provides free medical supports for residents in Caloocan. The city was also featured for its Caloocan City Sports Complex at North Caloocan.

Caloocan City plays a very important role in the Philippine history. This is the place where the cry of Katipunan occurred. Aside from its historical anthology, Caloocan is known for its happy people who always ready to help regardless of nationality and social disposition. There’s no peculiar tourist spot in Caloocan but the people itself can sell the city to anyone’s mouth.

Caloocan is the largest city by land area in the National Capital Region, whose name originated from the word “lo-ok” meaning innermost area. Its history is also enriched by that a monument was erected there in honor of one of the country’s heroes, namely, Andres Bonifacio.
