Moving to Hattiesburg, one should be aware of the progress the city has made over the last few years. Hattiesburg has made many changes to be a more progressive city, including removing Confederate statues, and building statues that are representative of our historical ties to the Freedom Summer movement. Our city has also implemented new murals and other artistic infrastructures to become a more tourist-friendly city.

Hattiesburg is a retirement and college city. Here we have a zoo, water park and other tourist activities. Over the last few years the crime rate has risen about 10%. It was once considered a safe place but that is questionable. The cost of living is much higher than the average wage earner can afford. I would not recommend moving here.

One must consider a lot of things when moving to Hattiesburg. We southerners love the outdoors and hot weather. if you coming from the north, the weather would be your biggest change. you have to get accustomed to the hot weather one day and rainy the next day.

There are not many activities available for young children. Only one walking trail and not a lot of outdoor recreation. Traffic is always present, as it is a college town and there are many students. The rent can be expensive, depending on which side of freeway you live. It rains frequently.
