Ellicott City is extremely prone to flooding. Within the last ten years, the town has hosted over four deadly floods, killing townsfolk, destroying buildings, and ruining local businesses.

The town has the ability to get back up after being hit by a natural disaster and come together as a community to rebuild what storms have wiped away. The rebuilding process can take several years and the efforts can easily be destroyed once again by another unexpected flood. However, the town remains hopeful through such disastrous times and continues to exert perseverance. The town harbors many people of different backgrounds and religions.

Ellicott City is located in central Maryland and known for its diversity, “old-world charm”, and frequent floods. The heart of the town named Old Ellicott City is a small district with bustling streets filled with artists, shop keepers, and restaurants. The town was founded by the Ellicott brothers, a trio of Quakers from Pennsylvania who traveled to this state in hopes of finding new land to harvest wheat and water power to run a mill. They were attracted by the rich land surrounding the Patapsco River and decided to settle there, spending their lifetime building a thriving village.

Ellicott City has a rich history, beginning over 100 years ago as a mill town. The historic district is very popular, with shops and museums. There are many restaurants in the historic district and elsewhere in the city. The city is a wonderful place and to visit!

Ellicott City is a historical city that suffered detrimental floods in 2011 and 2016. Small business owners either had to forfeit their businesses due to total loss or rebuild. Some businesses have been featured on television shows to feature the rebuilding of the new business locations still in the heart of Ellicott City.

Ellicott City is a very diverse city, and has a cute historic area where you can shop, eat, and walk around. The other part of the city is mostly new and modern, and has a lot of restaurants, parks, and shops also. Ellicott City is adjacent to Columbia, and is not that far from other counties such as Montgomery and Prince George’s.
