On August 3, 2019, a mass shooting took place in a local Walmart, taking away 23 lives and injuring 23 others. The shooter targeted Latinos and immigrants. El Paso reacted in a way that was full of love. Many people started fundraisers to help victims and their families, with something as selling a T-shirt or even by donating blood. The community did everything they possibly could to try and help, with determination and love.

Those who choose to move to El Paso should be forewarned that the summer temperatures can be extremely high. On a more positive note, there is very little humidity to contend with. As someone who grew up in the north, I also enjoy the fact that El Paso receives very little snowfall. The beauty of the sky makes it worth the heat.

In the spring the mountains which dominate El Paso’s skyline are covered in beautiful yellow poppies, yucca and cacti. The view is enhanced by beautiful sunrises and sunsets. El Pasoans can enjoy these spectacular views when using the many multi-use trails for hiking and biking which are scattered throughout the desert and on the mountains. Music and dance festivals, sporting events, shopping, museums, and historical sites provide not only entertainment but show the rich culture the city’s 400 year history.

El Paso was not only on the news for the horrible mass shooting, but because of the long lines to donate blood, and the amazing amounts of money raised to help these victims and their families. The community held vigils every day after the shooting took place, taking the time to pay their respects and remember those who were lost. El Paso took this downfall and used it to grow more as a community. The city may have crossed a dark event, but the people held each other up and were there for one another through it all.

During the Summer temperatures can reach up to 105 degrees, and Winter barely receives any snow. I would not recommend El Paso for those who are fans of a cold climate, or those with sensitive skin.
