Before moving to Chattanooga, it’s important to know with an average annual rainfall of 55 inches and 207 days of sunshine, this area is often quite humid. Luckily, to beat the humidity, there are plenty of water activities such as paddle boarding to Maclellan Island, kayaking to see the bats of Nickajack Cave, going for a dip in the Blue Hole, and making a splash in the fountains of Coolidge Park. But while water is a safe haven in the hot summer, be sure when considering housing that your residence is outside of the flood zone. Not only does the Tennessee Valley Authority control flooding, but since it produces electricity along the Tennessee River, electricity prices here are much more affordable compared to other cities in the United States.
