If you like the mountains you can ride up to Cheaha Mountain and go to the lookout that overlooks the city. The lights are beautiful at night. The sunsets are gorgeous there too. You can visit the State Park in the Talladega National Forest and Bald Rock to hike the trails and take in the views. As far as schools around here, the place you want to be is in Oxford. Oxford is the neighboring city and they have the best school system by far. It’s more expensive to live there but not too outrageous. There’s great restaurants and nightlife entertainment downtown on Noble Street. The one thing I never liked about Anniston, though, is there is still a racial division, unfortunately, throughout the city. Anniston Schools are mostly black, Oxford and Wellborn Schools are mostly white. Blue Mountain, West End and Central City, as well as, Hobson City and behind the hospitals are not the best places to live or to be, honestly. Most of the crime and drugs come out of those areas. Anniston is a city directly in between Atlanta Georgia and Birmingham Alabama. Ride an hour east, you’re in Birmingham. Ride an hour west, you’re in Atlanta. Six flags is before you get to Atlanta, the Birmingham Zoo and Botanical Gardens are in Birmingham. Great for the kids. Noccalula Falls, is a great place to check out in Gadsden. That’s also about an hour drive from Anniston. You probably should keep in mind, too, that we are located in the middle of the Bible Belt. A lot of the locals here are proud of that and seem to take it to heart. This is where I was born and raised, although, I’ve tried many times to venture elsewhere, but, it never fails, I always end up coming back home. I’m thinking about trying to venture west one more time, or maybe north to Tennessee. Tennessee has the best mountains and Little River Canyon!
